More about the bot

I've been working on Annie-Mei since 2022. It lets you search AniList from Discord using slash commands. I added Gemini so you can describe what you're looking for without knowing the title. I've spent a lot of time on the search, caching, and account-linking parts, along with preferences and privacy controls for users and servers.

  • Search uses AniList's GraphQL API, fuzzy matching, and Redis caching.
  • Account linking runs through a separate Rocket OAuth service with PostgreSQL.

Senior Software Engineer

I joined Academia.edu in 2021, working on payments and growth. I've since moved into infrastructure, internal tools, and AI development environments.

AI development environments

I build sandboxed environments for AI-assisted development. I've cut startup times by 75% overall and helped make these environments available to people outside engineering as well.

Internal tools

I work on shared tooling for teams using AI to develop software. I've also built an agentic workflow for turning research pseudocode into Python implementations, so researchers could move on to testing their ideas.

Production infrastructure

I helped migrate services to Kubernetes and cut deploy times by 50%. I also led our move from CloudFront to Cloudflare for systems handling 2,000 requests a second. On call, I handle incidents across the application, database, and infrastructure.
